Transform and Transfigure

During Lent we are called to transform our lives and become transfigured like Jesus.

Fasting, Praying and Giving are the tools given to us to help us transform and become more Christ-like in the world. Lent is a great opportunity to take stock of the direction the day-to-day decisions we make are having on our lives. We all want to be fit and healthy however if things like food are too important in our lives, if food has become a ‘god’ as St Paul points out, then we will never achieve our potential. Lent could be said to have been the first operation transformation but a more radical one!

Jesus was glorified, by the taking up his cross, by great sacrifices and by his resurrection. We are called to share in his sacrifice, pick up our own cross but we can share in his glory now, which leads us to happiness and eternal life. As we continue our Lenten journey, let us reflect on what we need to transform in our lives so that we might be transfigured both in body and soul. Its not all about physical things too, the Christian transformation is all-encompassing and leads to a wholesome person. If we fast from our own desires we will have time and energy to share love with others.

Pope Francis says “whenever our interior life becomes caught up in its own interests and concerns, there is no longer room for others, no place for the poor… the desire to do good fades.” During the second week of Lent, may fasting, praying and giving transform our hearts and minds so that we may be transfigured to bring hope and joy to all we meet.
