Plans are well underway for the Cathedral Jubilee Day, celebrating the Cathedral’s 75th anniversary.

The highlight of the day will be the Jubilee Mass with special guest Cardinal Timothy Dolan from New York.

A street party will take place after the 11am Mass and everyone is welcome.  The idea of the street party is to create a community gathering of families, friends and parishioners.   It has been many years since we’ve had a street party like this and we hope that lots of people will enter into the spirit of the day.

Already we’ve received great support from very many volunteers, including the Mullingar Town Band and the Mullingar Choral Society.  There will be lots of games and activities for children, as well as guided tours of the Cathedral during the day.  Below is the proposed schedule for the celebrations.

Every party needs food and festivities … and lots of them!  We’re asking people to bring along a picnic and to share with each other along the tables lined out on Mary Street.  This, we hope, is a good way to create a community spirit, which is what the Cathedral is all about.

We also want to welcome people who grew up in Mullingar but now live elsewhere so please help us to spread the word far and wide.

If you have any ideas on how to make this the best possible Jubilee Day, we would be more than happy to hear from you.

There will be more online updates we countdown to 7 September … you can follow us on Twitter (CTKCathedral) let’s keep in touch!
