Proposed changes at Cathedral schools
Last year Fr Padraig McMahon, Adm. invited the three schools beside the Cathedral - Scoil Mhuire, Presentation Junior and Presentation Senior School - to consider future enrolment options for families in Mullingar.
Almost 900 children attend these schools and the parish wishes to support their work of providing Catholic education.
With the approval of Bishop Smith, who is Patron of the schools, and pending the approval of the Department of Education, the following changes are proposed from 1 September 2013:
1. Scoil Mhuire (CBS) will enrol boys and girls from Junior Infants up to Sixth Class.
2. Presentation Senior School will enrol girls and boys from Third Class to Sixth Class.
3. Presentation Junior School will continue to enrol Junior Infant boys and girls.
4. Boys will continue to have the option of moving after First Class to Scoil Mhuire or of continuing in Second Class in Presentation Junior.
Speaking after the announcement, Fr McMahon said:
"In the coming months the Boards of Management will work to ensure we are ready for these proposed changes. I want to thank all who give so generously of their time to serve on the Boards. These schools have a long and valued history in the parish and I am confident that these proposed changes will make a positive contribution to their future direction."
