Parish toy appeal for SVP
Thanks to all who supported the toy appeal which had a massive response. All the toys will be given to local families through the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.
The appeal coincides with the Feast of Saint Nicholas on 6 December. Tradition tells that the saint came to the aid of a family in need in his community. We are very grateful to Linda and Fiona for coordinating the appeal.
The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul addressed parishioners at Masses last weekend. The toys were presented by Fr Michael Kilmartin to Enda Breslin on behalf of SVP after the Vigil Mass in the Cathedral.
During 2012, in addition to its core work of visiting and supporting the needy, SVP did the following:
Supported 96 students in 3rd level who needed our help
Provided housing in the Society's 8 apartments and one dwelling house
Provided over 400 Christmas Hampers to the needy last Christmas
Operated a Thrift Shop in Bishopsgate Street
Supported the Parish Women's Community Project and a School Breakfast Club
Provided breaks for 17 families in the Holiday Centre in Bundoran
Provided breaks for 83 elderly persons
We appreciate the good work of SVP in the parish and the generous response they receive from the public.
