First Holy Communion Day
We begin the first of nine celebrations of First Holy Communion in Mullingar this weekend.
We welcome to the Cathedral on Sunday 22 April at 11am the children from Gaelscoil an Choillín. This Mass will be celebrated in Irish. Next Sunday, the children from St Kenny's School will receive First Holy Communion in the Cathedral at 11am and the children from St Colmcille's School will receive First Holy Communion in Gainstown Church at 11am.
Due to the celebration of First Holy Communion on Sundays in the coming weeks, some extra vigil Masses have been added to our schedule to accommodate parishioners - in Gainstown Church next Saturday evening 28 April at 7pm and on Saturday 5 May and Saturday 12 May there will be extra vigil Masses in St Paul's Church.
The celebration of First Holy Communion is a very memorable and special occasion for children and their families. It is a joy for the parish to host these celebrations and we are very grateful to all who work hard to make this happen. This year, First Holy Communion is celebrated on Sundays. The principal reason is that Sunday is "the Lord's Day" and the Sunday Mass is the time when the families in our parish come together to express our faith and to receive the Lord. This is the best context, we believe, for celebrating the children's First Holy Communion. Parents have already taken part in the Sunday celebrations as part of the "Do this in memory" programme and we hope that the children and their families will continue to take part in the Sunday Mass during the year and to keep holy the Lord's Day.
If families wish to share photos from these celebrations with us for inclusion in the online gallery, we could be happy to hear from you. Please email them to us: firstname.lastname@example.org.
