ash-wednesday

Lent is what you do

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of 40 days to Easter

Lent is a time for prayer, fasting and almsgiving. You are asked to do something that will bring you closer to God and his people. You can either give up or take on something.

To help extra people attend Mass, the early morning Mass is being moved to 7.30am.

There is an evening Mass at 7.30pm in the Cathedral on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday evening, starting this Thursday.

On Fridays there will be a lunchtime Mass at 1.05pm.

Each of the seven Fridays during Lent the parish is organizing the following events:

Fair Trade Friday- March 11th

We will have a Fair Trade coffee morning in aid of Trócaire‘s Lenten Campaign in the Social Services Centre after the 10 am Mass. The coffee morning will be sponsored by Marshall‘s Supermarket.

Lunchtime Retreat- March 18th

Friday Fast- March 25th

‘Fool's for Christ'- April 1st

Forgiveness Friday- April 8th

Family Prayer- April 15th

Outdoor Way of the Cross- April 22nd

Other things to consider ....

  • Trócaire boxes are available in all parish churches. This Lent Trócaire invites us to support the people of Confianza, Honduras, who have been forced off their land. Check out www.trocaire.orgCongratulations to the students from our secondary schools who took part in the 2FM fast on Friday.
  • To focus our attention on the importance of the Word of God during Lent, beside the ambo in church a candle will be lit. This reminds us that the Word of God is something ‘alive and active'. ‗Walk with Me‘ booklets will also be on sale on Ash Wednesday in our churches.
  • Pope Benedict's reflection for Lent is available at http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/messages/lent/documents/hf_ben-xvi_mes_20101104_lent-2011_en.html
